KTAC (Kids Together Against Cancer), and was designed to help kids (ages 5 to 17) who have a parent/guardian who has been diagnosed with cancer. The program uses art projects to help children and their parents communicate with each other, cope throughout their cancer journey, and connect with other children going through a similar experience. KTAC is facilitated by clinical social workers like myself under the auspices of St. Vincent's and art therapists from the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. KTAC is partnered with and meets at Riverside Presbyterian Day School, but has no religious nor particular hospital affiliation.
Our next session begins on Tuesday, July 13th and meets weekly every Tuesday for 5 weeks total with a graduation ceremony on the Sunday following the 5th session. Meetings last from 5:30 to 7:30 and dinner is served from 5:30 to 6:00pm. From 6:00 to 7:00, kids and parents meet in separate groups to complete the art projects and then are reunited from 7:00 to 7:30 to recap information and open up discussion and communication.
